The same calculation appears in the November Budget submission of the Institute of Alcohol Studies, which also called for a cross-government strategy, keeping draft relief to help hospitality and equalising the abnormally low tax on cider. @ias.org.uk

Scotland saw a 7% fall in alcohol-specific deaths last year compared to the year before, but remains 16% above its pre-pandemic level. But last year's fall nearly matched the 10% fall in 2019, the last year before covid struck. @natrecordsscot.bsky.social

AR Interesting findings. For comparison it's worth noting a "drink" is a different amount of alcohol in different places. In this graphic the amounts in ml would be: UK, 140ml/week; Can, 34ml/week; NZ, 188ml/week (men), 125ml/week (women); Aus, 125ml/week.
