So. Much. this. Especially as someone who spent the first decade of my career in/on defense and government projects.
Engineering can be so much better than this and more than this. It's absurd how much we're resigned to this entire area of human work being held hostage by this kind of culture.

I cannot emphasize enough how much Zohran Mamdani's campaign was very much about a platform focused on accountability, but also about having fun, fostering genuine connections with its citizens, and reminding people why they moved to New York City and should still want to live there

Optimus will overturn the fundamentals of economics to an extent that we may not even need money in the future, Musk says, and yet he still recommends people "hold onto your Tesla stock," which seems like a kind of mixed message.

The real story is never whatever faculty are reading the admin saying at MIT, or whatever. I get tired of takes based on such insular perspectives. I've watched thousands of people change their lives, upskilling at their jobs, because of continuing education that takes advantage of these modalities

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

Hey @dieworkwear.bsky.social , one of the details I love about a few Orlebar Brown shirts I have is this kind of seamless button side of the breast (first pic). Maybe a dumb question, but what is this called? I’d love to find more dress shirts like that (as opposed to the standard, second pic).

A weird thing about me is that I have a number of turns of phrases that I use as if they are common idioms, but they are actually kind of obscure references. e.g.

"I'm outta here like Vladimir!"

Which is an @eve6.bsky.social reference from the incredible Horrorscope album.

“The New York Times collaborated with a white nationalist eugenicist hacker and agreed to keep his identity a secret to publish a Zohran Mamdani hit piece” is a way bigger story than “18 year old Zohran Mamdani ticked ‘African American’ on his Columbia application because he was a citizen of Uganda”

Trump admin, so clean on opsec.
Oh ffs.

A bizarre security breach unfolded in the Oval Office when Mark Zuckerberg unexpectedly wandered into a classified meeting about the Air Force's new F-47 fighter jets, alarming high level defense experts with admin's casual approach to national security.
