I read them as being parallel to the film’s depiction of Christianity: “hey this is going to be so, so great, except you’re going to have to die first.” That parallel is why crosses don’t do anything to vampires (iirc) but hoodoo (shown as an expression of black life) does.

I don’t know how the state views him, but the kind of Dem who votes in primaries here hates his guts.

That’s a huge bummer. My experience years ago was thoroughly positive. My understanding is that was the result of the good guys winning a civil war in the foundation that runs Monticello. Here’s hoping your experience doesn’t mean the other faction is now in control.

This was great! In particular I loved Horror Aquarium, as well as all the extras.

Have you been to Monticello? I was there around a decade ago and I was really impressed. Someone asked the tour guide about Jefferson’s relationship with Sally Hemings, and the guide immediately shut that down.

That guy is unbelievably whiny. Like I would be so embarrassed to whine that much in public.

I dunno, I guess I would say this is more an expression of a civic virtue that doesn’t need to pretend bad faith attacks are anything but lies. It’s virtuous to respond to racist, authoritarian fantasies with “lol. lmao.”

My dad is from Mexico City and he LOVES that shit. He’ll fry up a corn tortilla tostada-style and slather it in mayo. I like mayo too, but not nearly as much as that man.
