Purple Sandpiper - best bird photo on Jan. 1, 2025 and a nice first of year bird to find out on the rock jetty at Oregon Inlet, Dare County, NC🪶#birds ... A low Jan. 1 overall county for me this year (84 species) because the tripod for my spotting scope broke early in the day 😒

Had a nice morning at the Alligator River NWR in Dare County, NC. No year birds today, but a Barred Owl was cooperative for a photo, as was a rarer Ash-throated Flycatcher. #birds #LetsGoBirding 🦉

Black-legged Kittiwake in central PA. It took 4 tries, but I finally found the bird that a dozen or two folks had reported. Not a great photo, but for my PA lifer (and only 2nd ever), I am not complaining! #birds 🪶

Some good bird pictures this week. I was not sure what this Red Crossbill was trying to pick out of the road, and it’s Bill doesn’t seem to be made for that kind of foraging.
