Nearly every kid we saw in the ICU with COVID, once the vaccine was available, were kids who hadn’t gotten vaccinated. The vaccine was the difference between life and death, or at best a normal life and a devastated one.
🧵Regardless of whether RFK Jr is approved or not, we're going to have a tough road ahead on vaccination. Other nominees are also "COVID contrarians" & actively undermined vaccine confidence. We need all hands on deck to speak out & share stories like this one about the importance of vaccination.
As an emergency physician from day 1 of the pandemic, who was offered a COVID vaccine the first week it was available, I had watched young, healthy people die in alarming ways, but I was worried about sticking this stuff into my arm that was approved under an emergency authorization. 1/
