Screenshot with text: The Computational Mechanisms of Psychopathology Lab (COMPLab; PI: Vanessa Brown, PhD) is recruiting for a postdoctoral fellow to join the lab. Research in the lab uses behavioral tasks (administered in-lab and remotely), functional and structural imaging, computational modeling, and mechanistic interventions (brief psychotherapy, neuromodulation) to investigate learning alterations in anxiety and related disorders. In particular, this position will support research funded by a new NIH R01 using predictive and generative modeling of threat imminence to understand and manipulate avoidance in anxiety. This position is ideal for someone with a background in some combination of behavior/learning theory approaches to anxiety, computational modeling of behavior, and fMRI analysis; and who wishes to gain or deepen expertise in these areas. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to design experiments, analyze data, present and publish findings, apply for external funding, and assist with training other lab members and with lab management. Dr. Brown and the COMP Lab are strongly committed to mentorship, and support will be provided to assist the postdoctoral fellow to prepare for an independent research career.

Do you ever wish you could just use python to pull together the files and code for running FSL's randomise? Me too! I made this: github.com/jmumford/ran... It will even replace the numbers in the file outputs with contrast names of your choosing (and replace corrp with 1minusp).

Here’s my top line overview:
Trump has signed a new EO that puts us firmly into authoritarian overreach territory. Here's the top line: 1. Calls for political appointees--without science background--to approve all new funding opportunities and **every funded grant** to be sure it aligns with "the President's policy priorities". 2. Any grant that doesn't advance "agency priorities" can be cancelled at any time. 3. Funding cannot be given for research that: promotes "anti-American values", suggests sex isn't binary, and uses any selection for race. (Say good-bye to all c. elegans work!) 4. Funding will be prioritized to institutions that implement the "Gold Standard Science" and have the lowest indirect cost caps.  5. Grant peer-review is fine for now, but seems to be under threat for the future.

I'm very excited that this is out as preprint. In this study, 370 participants completed up to 30 runs of reward learning. We see that BMI and and Binge eating are associated with distinct RL patterns. Includes hierarchical models using Stan (+ many hours of sampling) and MRI data of an effort task

Our big behavioral precision mapping preprint is out. Based on 1,486,950 observed choices in a reward learning task, we show that BMI is associated with higher and more variable learning rates. Binge eating was associated with lower reward sensitivity. #neuroskyence 🩺

To determine distinct learning and decision-making profiles in obesity and binge eating (BE), we combined ecological momentary assessment (EMA) in a large online sample with a neuroimaging study. The figure shows the elements of the paper. Binge eating (BE) is associated with reduced but more variable reward sensitivity. The panels show associations of BE with learning parameters and an fMRI-based reward sensitivity measure derived from the cue stage of an effort task (independent of learning).

My med school textbook says stimulants like Ritalin treat hyperactivity by “stimulating” the brain’s attention and cognitive control systems. We studied children taking stimulants in the ABCD Study, and the largest differences were actually in arousal and reward networks! Check out our preprint!
