People take the Picatrix-style talismanic magic route because it’s popular, not necessarily because it’s effective or even well understood. There are other types of talismans and other types of magic out there, but they’re harder to sell because people are looking for an aesthetic, not a result.

I honestly don’t think people would be this ignorant to the scope of the occult sciences if we didn’t have so many failed marketing and psych majors setting up talismanic shops and selling courses two days after they found out they could engrave a picture onto a rock.
To reiterate, picatrix stye image magic aren’t the only path to talismanry. The magic squares are a separate technology with a separate science to making and using them. They are absolutely more than added symbolism on a desk.
I never understood the point of number squares on a Talisman if the Planetary Intelligence isn't being petitioned for it.
Technically, I am more open minded if it's added symbolism used on the desk one is working at, it just seems weird to me for talismans to be ensouled w/raw Planetary power.
