As an aside, I do not see the Tuttle Twins get the hate the series deserves. Anything that tries to sell kids 'blame it on the Fed' octopus T-shirts and "little Golden book" style stories that disruptive businesses must fight regulation because relation is only from Croney capitalism needs more hate

So Rep Lloyd Smucker has sent a defamation threat to the Lancaster PA local newspaper LNP over an editorial that said he lied.

He's Pathetic. Ianal but this feels like a lol-letter at best.

Demand Letter to Address Defamation By Newspaper Messrs. Hetrick, Solomon, and Murse, I represent Congressman Lloyd Smucker regarding a matter involving your newspaper. On October 8, 2025, your newspaper ran an editorial entitled ""C'alling a Lie a Lie." The first line o that editorial is clearly defamatory per se of Representative Smucker and you equally clearly knew that it was not true at the time of publishing I fully recognize that for a public figure like Rep. Smucker to claim defamation, the elevatec standard of New York Times v. Sullivan (hereafter "Sullivan") must be met by clear and convincing evidence. In the case of the defamation about which I am writing you today, that elevated standard is met, and the statement is clearly one of fact not opinion The Sullivan standards as applied to LNP's defamatory statement are as follows: 1. Accusing Rep. Smucker of being a ""liar" is clearly harful to his reputation, and is thus a defamatory communication 2. The statement explicitly named Rep. Smucker and thus would be understood by all to be referring to Rep. Smucker. 3. The statement was published locally and worldwide via the internet to an audience o3 indeterminate size, but clearly communicated to numerous third parties, i.e., other thas LNP and Rep. Smucker himself 4. The statement is false and provably so (see below): 5. LNP knew the statement was false, or acted with reckless disregard for the truth, i.e., with a high degree of awareness of probably falsity. This can be seen, inter alia, in LNP's... Kenneth T. Cuccinelli I1, Attorney at Law itation to its own reporting by Jaxson White,'1 in which White noted that it was "almos certain" that some of the money at issue would cover the healthcare costs of illegal aliens - the specific point about which I NP asserted that Rep. Smucker was lvying. "A lmost ertain" exceeds both the necessary clear and convincing standard, but also exceeds the (inapplicable) criminal standard of beyond a reasonable doubt; and 5. The defamatory statement certainly was intended to, and did, damage Rep. Smucker's reputation in such a way as to adversely affect him in the performance of his role as Congressman. WTalker v. Grand Central Sanitation, Inc. et al, 430 Pa.Super. 235, 244-45. 534 A.2d 237 (Pa. Super. Ct. 1993) (citing Merton Center v. Rockwell Int'l Corp., 491 Pa. 460, 442 A.2d 213, cest. denied, 457 U.S. 1134 (1982) In light of the clear nature of LNP's per se defamation of Rep. Smucker, by this letter I demanc an apology and admission of wrongdoing, as well as an explicit retraction - all published with rqual prominence in both the hard-copy newspaper and online in a form previously approved by me on behalf of Rep.
