Adventures in aged care. During Easter morning tea John had a moment. 'You're all invisible,' he shouted. There was a stunned silence then much laugher hidden in teacups. It wasn't even the main issue. Couldn't compete with the cold hot cross buns. That's unAustralian.

Adventures in aged care. No Gunter aged 88, I do not want to hear about how much you miss sex but heck, you were hell bent on telling me anyway.

Wonder what happens when you steal from just about every author in the world. Certainly defines the next villains we write.

Adventures in aged care. It's not a real visit unless I get asked to dance in the middle of a corridor by a resident I've not met. Today's visit was super real

Adventures in aged care. Michael is his wife's carer. She has dementia & is prone to hurting herself. She wears headgear. Michael has cancer. He's going to die and is terrified not for himself but for his wife. This is not an uncommon tragedy.

Adventures in aged care. Joy (91) tripped on a car park speed hump and face planted. She broke her cheekbone and the side of her face is black with bruising. But it wasn't a hip. Time to stop doing cartwheels in Westfield she said. Btw Westfield staff took care of her and did all the right things

Adventures in aged care. No one is too old to play keep the balloon off the floor. Betty Dorothy can't walk or talk but she's the balloon off the floor champion.

Adventures in aged care. Escapee edition. Paul escaped yesterday. Tailgated a carpet installer out the door determined to go home. On the street a man noticed he looked unsteady and pulled over to ask if he was ok. He agreed to drive Paul to his home.

Adventures in aged care. New level of embarrassing. I'm on a long video conference about resident issues. The room behind me is being demolished by builders as one meeting attendee launches into a long ramble about the sex needs of 80 and 90 year olds. Hard to shock a young chippie but that did it.

Adventures in aged care. I'm getting ready to leave the world said Sam. I'm not happy it's in worse condition than when I started out. One murder used to be a big thing, now it doesn't rate unless you kill a bunch of little kids he said.

Adventures in aged care. The call of dementia. Disembodied voice shouting - where's my watermelon?

Adventures in aged care. Paul looks like he's gone three rounds with Jake Paul. Should see the other guy he said.

Adventures in aged care. Some of the residents absolutely refuse to do the YMCA in chair aerobics because of a certain person. It's coming off the play list.

The four grandmas having lunch beside me are unanimous about not wanting to take their annual holiday with their 1 and 2 year old grand babies. A ploy for free babysitting they will not be falling for.
January 28, 2025 at 2:27 AM
Adventures in aged care. Joy talked me through her morning exercise routine including demonstrating squats. They'll protect me for when I'm old she says. And then remembers she's 93 and laughs herself silly.

Adventures in aged care. Playgroup was a huge success. Five mums and their toddlers and 9 oldies plus the social team. Balloon tennis was a big hit and so was sharing the little plastic farm animals around for a pat.

Adventures in aged care. Joy has an invisible rash. She's itchy all over and cream isn't helping. You have to be brave to be old (93) she said on her way off to Bingo.

Adventures in aged care. Mary's dad is non verbal and uses a comfortable chair. While it's not a necessity Mary comes to feed him every meal. She's a single mum who works and also cares for her mum who has cancer. I've never seen her look unhappy. A modern everyday saint.

Adventures in aged care. Joan aged 96 whose father was 104 when he died said - I had such a disappointing morning. I said - why. She deadpanned - I woke up.

Adventures in aged care. Today's big event is a hoedown. That's what the hay bales were for. Everyone is getting around with a bright coloured paper Akubra hat and saying yeehah in preparation for the dancing. Legs and wheels a go.
January 17, 2025 at 12:37 AM
Adventures in aged care. Today's chair aerobics class wasn't as well attended as yesterday's Zoomba. Zoomba was sitting room only. Sheila reckons it's the music. The 90+ crew like those Latin beats.
