In the nine matches since 2023 WC, Pakistan used 17 players across three series. Now with four new faces and a maximum of three matches before they start their campaign on 19 Feb in Karachi, it will certainly be a challenge to nail the combinations.

But, asking your best batter to change his position in the format he is most productive at and that also ahead of a high pressure tournament is probably asking too much of him.

A batting side has two resources- wickets and balls. If you have lost wickets, you cannot afford to waste other as it will only add to the pressure and Pakistan have found themselves stuck in this quagmire many a times. Miller’s and Linde’s innings serve as perfect examples. #SAvPAK

Why does playing to the situation have to be synonymous with bringing your scoring rate down? The only way a batting side shifts the pressure on the bowling is by scoring runs.

There is not much reason for India to pushback Pakistan on this.

They host women’s world cup - for which Pakistan is yet to qualify - in 2025 and co-host T20 men’s world cup with SL - where Pak can play its games - in 2026.
