Two BUFF in my pocket takes almost no space and gives me the options of neck warmers, beanie, balaclava (using one on the head and one on the neck), and anything inbetween.

For the head, I will use a balaclava hood whenever its really cold.
In almost all other cases, including spring/autumn, I wear BUFF for flexibility and comfort. These neck warmers are brilliant. Stretch fabric, breathes really well, and can be worn in a ton of ways.

For feet, (and if you aren't used to cold weather climates; footwear is essential to keep your core temperature up) I will pretty much live in variations of snowmobile shoes all winter. Rated for -22 Fahrenheit (-30 Celcius) is bare minimum.

For the outer layer, and because thermal layering like fleece and wool doesnt sit well with me, I will typically vary between a waterproof and breathable shell jacket/trouser whenever I need high activity or its less cold, and on colder days I use heavily insulated winter overalls.

I have two problems with Winter.
I have MS, a neurological disease, and it messes with my nerve system. One of the things MS has messed up is my skin sensation. To give you the quick run-down; cold registers as pain to my brain.
When my brain senses pain, the body tenses up, the bastard.
