I think a big part of what makes the LLM discourse feel so insane is the insight that using AI effectively requires a level of humility and carefulness that is completely opposite to the way it was developed, the way it is being marketed, and the way the entire tech industry normally operates.
I was really nervous about being wrong because
a) that would be an example of the bad thing everyone is laughing at
b) the analysis really did seem correct, so it would reflect poorly on my judgment
