I see the “technically it’s ephebophelia” crowd is out today, so just a reminder that A) this is NOT a case where technically correct is the best kind of correct and B) the minute you say this, the gods dump you in the “irredeemable creeper” basket and wash their hands thoroughly after touching you.

An ephebophile is a paedophile who happens to know how to use a thesaurus.

Somehow managed to cut a nice slice into my thumb and thumb nail using a garnishing tool. Kitchen looks like an abbatoir. I had no idea the thumb was such a vascular area! It's a pretty small cut and I think a steri-strip will take care of it but damn! there is a lot of clean up!

It's just astonishing (although I suppose it shouldn't be) watching those who vociferously accuse trans and queer people of child abuse and endangerment trying to move the goal posts to make sex with 11 year olds acceptable. Every accusation is a confession with these vile right-wing monsters.

Listening to Strauss's Arabella from the Met. Excellent cast with Rachel Willis-Sørensen particularly impressive in her role debut. But I have to wonder if there is another opera more stacked with deeply annoying characters? Matteo, Waldner, Zdenka (until the final act), and that damn Fiakermilli!

History is our record of what happened in the past and how we interpret it. Erasing Black people or any group from history is evil.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

Planted 4 varieties of radish (in little seedling/germinating trays), some spinach, arugula, and lacinato kale. Also started pruning the pomegranate as I removed the some of the last of its fruit. Wondering whether to finally give up on the sad root-bound little ficus we inherited with the house.

Last month the superb Sphinx Virtuosi opened their concert with a lush arrangement for 18 strings of "La Bella Cubana" by José White Lafitte (1836-1918).

Later found this nostalgia-tinged version by El Trio Cubano, recorded (unbelievably) over 100 years ago

Here's another bit of conventional wisdom Zohran completely blew away: His speech was at well above a 10th-grade level. It was complex, erudite, punctuated by deep and fluent references. You don't have to condescend to voters with baby talk! Part of re-establishing norms is speaking like an adult.
