Here at South, we're getting an education on labor history and tax policy from our social science dept.

Furlough?
Hell no!

On May 1, faculty & staff will walk out of classrooms and walk out of offices. Withhold labor for May Day!

Supporting students means supporting faculty & staff!

On May 1, faculty and staff in AFT 1789, WFSE 304, and AFT 6550 from across the Seattle Colleges will walk out at 10am to stand in solidarity and protest against furloughs for faculty and staff; decades-long chronic underfunding of our colleges; and impending job cuts in student-facing jobs.

Despite the rain and heavy grading, it was great to see so many people turn out for South's end of quarter social!

Worker power is built on real relationships, and it's always nice to meet some cool new colleagues!

Also had a nice social afterwards. Solidarity is fun!

After we all went in, the District team suddenly decided to abandon the discussion points they had planned. Our poker faces had them scared! 😂

Maybe it's harder to devalue faculty labor when dozens of those faculty are sitting right there in the room? 🤔

Great turnout for bargaining on Friday as our team brought new counterproposals on pay and non-instructional duties. The room was packed and energy was high!

But what's that graph? Computer, enhance image.

Why, it looks like funding for instruction at the Seattle Colleges has stagnated over the past decade, despite a growing budget for administration and other non-instructional services.

A strong majority of members have now signed our petition for a fair contract!

Our demands are simple: a reasonable raise, protections for part-timers, and an end to work creep.

Our members were down in Olympia today, talking with state legislators about the importance of fully funding higher education in Washington!

Thanks to @organizewithshaun.bsky.social and state Rep. (& South alum) Brianna Thomas for meeting with us!
