I have documented opinions that show this is the case - one reason why PSEO is so powerful.
Measuring a college's value? It's more complicated than you think. A new study co-authored by Upjohn Institute's @bradhershbein.bsky.social reveals how graduates mobility - and where they end up - can skew traditional college accountability metrics.

While the de minimus exemption causes lots of people to realize how tariffs are impacting them directly, I am reminded of the long literature on the different effects of *where* taxes are collected and how that impacts their salience.

Should be fun to read the papers in a few years on this topic.

A really cool paper, with lots more to come on the claims front.
Hey #EconSky 📈📉
Excited to finally share this working paper with Roozbeh Hosseini and Martin Gervais.

My daughter started at a new school and has had a tough time fitting in. I learned yesterday that she joined a "recess club" of girls who kill lantern flies and dismember them, bringing their wings to science class as trophies.
Weather radars were lighting up Thursday with signals that would ordinarily suggest rain — but no precipitation was in the forecast.

Instead, radars have been capturing a massive swarm of spotted lantern flies descending on the Mid-Atlantic.
So many spotted lanternflies are out right now, you can see it on radar
So many have descended across the Mid-Atlantic, swarms of the insects have been appearing on weather radar. Clouds of them have been descending on trees and buildings across the region.

I have a new paper that links PSEO data to business formation data at the individual level, but cannot come up with a paper title for the life of me.
Does anyone have a punchy paper title idea? @joshua-goodman.com ?

This article is written like my kids don't wake up at 5:30am every morning ready to attack the day, despite whenever they go to sleep.

I have spent months hyping my kids up about the upcoming Fort Dupont Ice Arena opening just 5 minutes from me - my son loves hockey and my daughter just loves skating.
Thanks to negligence from SMOOT contractors, it looks like we have to wait much longer:

DC Streetcars will be phased out after just a little over a decade in service, a little longer than it took to build. In its place Mayor Muriel Bowser promises a “next generation streetcar,” otherwise known as an electric bus www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...
Bowser to replace D.C. Streetcar with ‘next generation streetcar.’ It’s a bus.
The streetcar that took more than a decade and $200 million to launch will shut down in two more years.

Just finished the podcast series Scam Inc. from the @economist.com
I learned a lot of things, including the "securitization of scam targets."
I also learned that crypto makes these crimes very easy.

I predict another wave of "housing lock" papers in the next 5 years. Maybe my least favorite paper (which was also my JMP) will get cited on accident.

In 2013, JI Packer published what would be one of his final books, called "Weakness is the Way."

I think about that book a lot.

Its so cold that this morning, I ran and my balaclava started freezing around my head. By the time I finished my run it was covered in a thin layer of ice.
It got very cold overnight before clouds moved in around sunrise. 🥶

Coldest of winter so far across the area. 20 for DC (observed at National), 9 for Dulles and 8 in Gaithersburg, to highlight a few. Colder next week...
