I engage in the subversive act of investigating & teaching how best to read & document science. Helio: https://zenodo.org/records/14242565

DMs about my work are welcome. If I don't know you, anything will else will get you blocked.
This shows how the scientific method is a variation on human problem solving, and the difference between the scientific method and a scientific process. The scientific method is an idealization. A scientific process is its iterative, real world instantiation.

They're trying but still got key details about the origins of Open Access wrong. Also, the comments are quite educational on misconceptions about the issues.

My response to their error in the pic.

Just read this comment on Reddit by a layperson trying to explain the high cost of academic books (pic):

🤯

We must work harder to dispel these misconceptions!!

Academics are generally not paid to produce scholarly literature.

Imagine a world where the trillions of labor hours we collectively waste trying to publish papers were instead devoted to creating a usable and reliable scientific record?

Our problems run even deeper than you describe. See these numbers from a quick and dirty poll I ran on twitter and mastodon last September. Most of my followers are science workers.

I'll try to find the original posts so you can read the comments.

Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just covers.

Excerpt from 'The Atlas of new librarianship' by R. David Lankes.

This is one of the many precious books ripped from public access by current attacks against the Internet Archive.
