NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Tax the rich. Greg Ryan in @bloomberg.com:
Millionaire Tax That Inspired Mamdani Fuels $5.7 Billion Haul in Massachusetts
A millionaire levy in Massachusetts that New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani holds up as a model for taxing the rich has generated $3 billion more in revenue than expected without forcing...

Great to see the show off support, but it's worth reminding folks that these are not the only 6 protestors that have been indicted by the federal government for protesting at Broadview, they're just the most famous.
Good afternoon from Chicago's Federal Plaza. A rally is underway now in support of the "Broadview Six," who face arraignment in about 45 minutes on federal conspiracy and impeding charges, stemming from their participation in a Sept. 26 protest in front of the Broadview, IL ICE facility.

This is a small snow plow for sidewalks

If your city plows the roads but leaves sidewalks up to property owners, your city hates pedestrians.

Mag Mile is basically an urban mall and its collapse is more reflective of national storefront retail trends than it is an indicator of Chicago's crime rates.

The venues are too big and expensive for local businesses, and national chains aren't investing in brick and mortar locations. 🤷🏼‍♀️
Call in the troops to solve the commercial real estate crisis in our swanky downtown cores

Fuck every alder who voted against plowing the sidewalks in chicago. I hope you don't slip and fall and break some bones.

Special fuck you to the alder who did some terrible "back of the napkin" math. Stop ruining our lives!!!!

I've said it before, and I will say it again.

We need courageous leaders that put working families at the center of all they do.

8 democrats caving to empty promises is an indefensible leadership failure

For the sake of our country, Schumer needs to resign.

Literally the one place in the country where Democrats got their clock cleaned was in the home county of state chair who refused to endorse Mamdani and has generally overseen a string very poor democratic performances.
Has New York Democratic Party chairman Jay Jacobs resigned over Mamdani yet? I hope he hasn't, so that he can instead resign over *improving Republican margins over Trump 2024 in an anti-Republican wave election*. Trump won Nassau by just 4%—now look at this bloodbath

The key factor that everyone seems to always forget is that Trump was the host of what was once the highest rated show on network TV - a purportedly non-fiction show that portrayed him as a hyper-savvy and hyper-successful businessman.
Trump has gotten huge numbers of infrequent voters to the polls, twice. He's deeply unpopular but has mobilized a large, unprecedented coalition of Americans motivated by some combination of ignorance, avarice, and cruelty. It is hard to describe what he has as something other than charisma
His charisma is fundamentally incompatible with me (and likely many of the people on Bluesky) but it’s kind of insane to say it doesn’t exist

CTA plans 24-hour service on Orange Line to Midway, thanks to mass transit bailout
Acting CTA President Nora Leerhsen’s ambitious plan would also expand — from 20 to 30 routes — the so-called Frequent Bus Network that provides service “every 10 minutes or better” between 6 a.m. and ...
