Ruth, Roses, and Revolver (1987)
You sit down to watch "Ruth, Roses, and Revolver" (1987), in which David Lynch walks into a cinema and sits down to watch "Dreams that Money Can Buy" (1947), in which a group of people walk into a room with red curtains and sit down to watch "Ruth, Roses, and Revolver," a short film by Man Ray in which a man sits in front of a large portrait of an older man's eyes. You think "those look a lot like Stanley Kubrick's eyes, but that couldn't be, he would only be 19 at this point" (the eyes are in fact Man Ray's). At one point during the screening, 19-year-old Stanley Kubrick, sitting among the audience in the room with red curtains, looks directly at you in 2025, looking at Lynch in 1987 looking at people in 1947 looking at Man Ray's eyes (date undetermined, possibly outside of time).
