21 million eligible voters, about 1 in 10 adult citizens, do not readily have access to any proof of citizenship. Half of all Americans—146 million people—do not have a passport at all. 69 million American citizens don’t have a birth certificate with their current legal name on it.
October 20, 2025 at 5:13 PM
The nonpartisan Election Assistance Commission (EAC) has been asked to amend the federal voter registration form to require Americans to provide unnecessary documentary proof of citizenship when registering to vote.

This is a blatant attempt to suppress the vote and creates a modern day poll tax.

Everyone should have their voices heard at the ballot box. But a proposed rule change could block tens of millions of Americans from voting.

We must speak out to protect the right to vote. 🧵

Additional safety tips:

Carry an ID if possible (but you don’t have to show it unless required in specific situations)

Write a legal aid number on your arm in case you’re separated from your phone.

Know the different agencies — MPD, National Guard, Park Police, and others may be on the streets.

You have the right to a lawyer:

Black youth deserve equal treatment under the law — speak your rights clearly and demand them.

If arrested, say: “I want a lawyer. I am staying silent.”

Do not sign anything without a lawyer present.

If you’re under 18, your parent or guardian must be contacted.

You have the right to protest:

You can be in public spaces like streets and parks for protests.

If told to move, ask: “Am I free to go?” If yes, walk away calmly.

Federal troops are not DC police; they may have different rules, so staying calm, filming, and having a buddy are key.

You have the right to say no to a search:

If asked to open your bag, pockets, or phone, say: “I do not consent to a search.”

They may still search, but your refusal can help your lawyer fight it later.
August 15, 2025 at 8:10 PM
You have the right to record:

You can film police, National Guard, or any federal agents in public spaces.

Stand at a safe distance and don’t interfere with their work.

They cannot take your phone or delete your videos without a warrant.
August 15, 2025 at 8:10 PM
You have the right to remain silent:

You do not have to answer any questions about where you’re going, where you live, or your immigration status.

You can say: “I’m using my right to remain silent.”

If you give your name, you do not have to say more.
