Based on what we're seeing here, were they to win it will be the sound of one hand clapping back in Canada. Even when they are shown to be the second best team in the world, Canada should be celebrating them

We're currently traveling in Canada and the vast majority of people we've met don't even know it's on, and we've failed to find a single bar bothering to open early for it. We'll be watching from our hotel room

I'm aware of two cases where elderly people were met with Openreach engineers just turning up to install a service they had no clue about. One of which I know already had a different broadband supplier.

Where I live there are 4 full fibre operators competing - any of them could deliver a good broadband service with a fixed line telephone but BT is using their position as the copper phone line provider to push people onto their fibre network and making it very hard to avoid.

I've written long form on retiring the old network on Substack but the summary is that in markets where the regulator like @ofcom.bsky.social take the view that it's a primarily commercial change typically leads to the incumbent reinforcing their market dominance

The old analogue telephone network is being retired over the next few years but I'm hearing more stories like mine where BT is trying to force migrate people to their full fibre network, refusing to cancel it because there is an existing order on the line, one they placed, not the customer
