And now a major YouTube outage. What's going on, Internet?

Last night's backyard pic of M31, the Andromeda galaxy, our closest galaxy neighbor. Probably needed a couple more hours, but it's so bright, one hour already shows much detail.

Looks like a total Microsoft cloud services outage. Can't use Teams or anything else.

On World EV Day, it's time to consider the future of cars and our shared environment. If you can charge at home or work, there is a great and growing list of available models that can fit all of your needs, both locally and on long trips. Great EVs are here NOW. It's beyond time to make this happen!

My fellow nerd colleagues, does this imply we are storing 6 bytes or 12?

Beautiful red strawberry moon tonight! Not a fan of the wildfire smoke during the day, but at night it adds extra color.

The NSF stripping Universities from their much-needed Facilities and Administrations funds on all new grants means one thing: Progress that is the backbone of American innovation through high-risk, high-reward research is now over. China must be so pleased with the kakistocracy in the United States.

Cutting Harvard's tax-exempt status sends a chilling message to educational institutions: Research excellence doesn't matter. Other countries will capitalize massively because of the triple-barrel shotguns pointed and fired at our own feet.

NSF grants and funding frozen and/or cut. Research lines left to rot in the dirt. And now NPR/PBS, a source of national pride in exceptional journalism, left to wither on the vine. This isn't greatness. This is a lightning-fast descent into fascism and autocracy. Mark my words.

Friends, colleagues, fellow academics, and all those we serve in our profession, please read the following article from Ars Technica, as it is critical that we understand it: arstechnica.com/culture/2025...
Resist, eggheads! Universities are not as weak as they have chosen to be.
Opinion: It’s time for public resistance.

The M101 Pinwheel galaxy, after a 1-hour stacked shot. I missed the clouds moving in at the very end - the skies were perfectly clear for most of the image

The "DOGE" must be pronounced "doggy" so that it loses the mysterious terror of its name. Then, with it ridiculed, people will laugh and this nightmare will be put to pasture by its own proponents.

The University of Louisville is now in hiring freeze for all new full-time faculty positions. Departmental research incentive funds are now frozen. Individual RIF is being curtailed. Are we great again yet?

Colleagues in the science & engineering community, we must fight back against tRump ignorance and oppression by organizing a March for Science! Our national research progress and knowledge is at risk! #MarchforScience - Pi Day 2025, DC! Anyone want to make this happen?

Friends, electrification has never been more important in securing our future. Consider buying an #EV this year. Money talks - show charge point operators and vehicle manufacturers that our future matters. Spending incentivizes buildout and new products. Fight the fossil fuel mandate! #IONNA

This is literally the ONLY acceptable response to the new bullsh!t EO on restricting funding disbursements and reviews: youtube.com/shorts/WL1fo...

With every single moment we pull this crap, we are ceding scientific progress and innovation to countries who know how to invest in their futures.
