"Care about people's approval, and you will be their prisoner." -- Lao Tzu
Today sees the end of Reconciliation Week as well as my sister-from-another-mister's 40th birthday. I think moments like these should be significant prompts to appreciate what makes up our lives and how we're connected to each other, whether through pain, love, sacrifice, reparation, or otherwise.

June is PTSD Awareness Month and Phoenix Australia is "the Australian National Centre of Excellence in Posttraumatic Mental Health". Have a click around their website. If you're impressed, make use of their donation facility - just in time for EOFY 😎

Dusted off the piano today and a rusty version of this is what my fingers decided to do next. Obviously I had to tell you because it's just such a classic 💗

This morning I found my stalwart Egg Man - from the house that I had a lifetime ago and sold in 2010 - ready for some gardening with a very smart Buy Nothing sunhat thanks to a fellow BNer with a sense of humour.

That moment when you've just spent hours snapping away at pretty little native blossoms on a #bushland hike around Settlers Common in the historic Armadale of Western #Australia on Boorloo country and are about to part ways with your mate of 19 years but can't find the selfie camera

Jazz was so sweet and engaged watching all of us exchange and unwrap gifts on his first Christmas. My giving him one blew his little, fluffy mind. It was a Christmassy cape which he loved wearing. This Christmas is the second since his passing a year ago. He was 12. It really felt too soon.

You have options!

Abyss! Void! A bunch of Nietzsche quotes of a varying favourability at Oxford Reference (https://buff.ly/4gv7Ufu)! A pretty hardcore philosophical paper (https://buff.ly/3ZTd67z) because I can't find the origin of the expression, "scream into the void"!

OPTIONS!

These two darlings were made for each other. And my unicorn hat? WELL! A housemate's friend lent me a book. I waited in a pub to return it to him. At the pub was a photographer who became a dear friend. Having seen my stupid glee at this prop hat in his car, he later gave it to me for my birthday 🦄

Bessie? Is statue?

This likeness of a total champion led to my learning about how Bessie Rischbieth, OBE JP shaped where I live. Local history IS EYE-OPENING. Netflix has its place but ignorance doesn't. Find a statue, google it, and be astonished.

The defining characteristic of uni is that it trains you to find new knowledge. Employment is not the aim; discoveries are. Classical education keeps society healthy through rigorous reevaluation. Unlike vocational education, it equips you with the VERY valuable cognitive skills outlined here:
Aristotle's Logic: The Foundation of Western Analytical Thought • Philosophy Institute
Aristotle's contributions to logic laid the groundwork for the systematic study of logical arguments. His Organon introduced categories, the theory of deduction, and syllogisms, emphasizing the…

I actually spot fixed the second image. At least in the first I'm upfront about being a fraud. That one shows me stressing about achieving perfection of some kind in the name of fun.

So many of us are lost in the myriad faces we show. I try to show just one but at times am too scared to. Like you?

Eating meat and other animal products doesn't reduce your chance of developing Alzheimer's disease. Eating plant-based foods instead probably could. Grab a vegan recipe online, get good at it, and rinse and repeat.
Diet’s Role in Modifying Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease: History and Present Understanding - IOS Press
Diet is an important nonpharmacological risk-modifying factor for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The approaches used here to assess diet’s role in the risk of AD include multi-country ecological studies,…

Yellow and blue together are the only primary colour combination that's soothing. They're night and day yet so complementary, which might be why they seem to symbolise camaraderie.

At this point I have to spare a thought for 🇺🇦 Ukraine. Sadly that's all I think I can do in this post-truth era.

At my mates' 2010 wedding I met a woman who went to WAAPA with the groom. She and her husband invited me to the husband's 40th where I met his sister-in-law, pictured here with me, who's now one of my greatest friends. The way these connections are woven is fucking amazing when you think about it.

This is why we need quality high school English teachers and curriculum: to render propaganda powerless.

We think we're literate when we can read the words of a social media post and string together a sentence in reply. But we're wrong.

I started taking nudes in 2015 to help me to like my body. The venture hasn't worked; I remain ashamed, but the activity's thrill factor gradually increased and I shifted into thirst trap territory.

Where does one begin to explain the beauty of flowers that took eons to evolve and were given to you by a Portuguese friend of 26 years?

Every moment of life and every bit of reality is to be treasured. We spend our days scared and offended with an occasional ego boost and burst of laughter, only to realise on our deathbeds all the truth and beauty to which we chose to be blind.
