Four more years of horrific misogyny, racism, homophobia, trans-phobia, and ever-increasing income inequality. If I hear one more person urging us all to keep a gratitude journal, I might explode.

My novel, DOWN THE STEEP, was shortlisted for the 2024 Steinbeck Literary Award, sponsored by the Historical Fiction Company. What a great way to start the new year!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I need to take a break from news. This morning I could barely get out of bed.

Two years ago I went on the trip of my dreams--Australia! Here I am on the Great Ocean Road. In a parallel universe, I emigrated to Australia at the age of 22, lived a long and happy life there, and will soon retire among my sheep and kangaroos.

This is my cat. Her name is Captain Jack. Given her tuxedo coat and her name, everyone thinks she's male. I like to think she's nonbinary.

My novel, DOWN THE STEEP, has been chosen by the Women's National Book Association for their 2024 Great Group Reads recommendations. It IS a great book club pick, exploring the themes of racism and misogyny in Civil Rights-era Virginia.
