AND supporting your local library is super important! If you actually DO want books to be available to everyone, the library *already exists* and is staffed by the people who are deep in the trenches of fighting censorship! Supporting the library is doing actual good for your community!

For like the zillionth time: Libraries are FREE for you, but WE still get compensated for our work!!
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

A group of youth climate researchers affiliated with UC Davis is trying to fix climate models to correct for fossil fuel industry propaganda that has snuck its way in. But... of course their funding was just cut. :(

So they're doing a GoFundMe.

Hey, I know books are expensive and money is tight right now.

But if there's a brand new book you really wanna read — including my own Lessons in Magic and Disaster — you can help get the book into way more hands by requesting it from your local library!

It's easy! Check your library's website.

This was a) the first YA Alien book, b) Mira Grant's first YA novel, and c) the only Alien book to ever make an ALA recommended reading list. I was and remain very proud of it. I make no royalties for eBay sales; I just check periodically to see what's out there.

Some dipshits have taken to calling the majority of humans "NPCs". Meaning we lack agency and don't think for ourselves.

These are the same folks who want us to become dependent on A.I., which will make us lack agency and be unable to think for ourselves.

Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars.

OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

Sadly, I am not buying books at the moment because I do not currently have a regular job. OTOH, I frequently recommend purchases to the Tulsa City-County library, and have been known to do so based on Bluesky posts such as this one: bsky.app/profile/char...
Srsly I've been grabbing everyone I know and urging them to read The Mad Sisters of Esi by @tashanmehta.bsky.social
My latest sff book review column is up, including a wonderful vampire novel, an interesting near future memory-sharing dystopia, and the best book I've read in ages

Friends, if someone posts a fun thread about something, you are not actually required to bring up Trump. It isn’t mandatory!

I realize that the political situation is deep and dark and dreadful, but that’s kinda why we need a few seconds a day untainted by it.

And then we're back to people who don't understand the system destroying people's livelihoods. Because to you or me, enamel pins are a luxury item. But to my independent artist friends, enamel pins have been the thing that made their careers sustainable.
Enamel Pins are mostly made overseas. Most 'US based' companies that make pins are just middlemen.

Also I understand that enamel pins are not a critical item, but a lot of artists make a good chunk of money from selling them.
The discourse around tariffs has been “things will get more expensive” but I am here to tell you that I am knee deep in reporting on this subject and I strongly suspect that if super high tariffs endure, it will shift to *certain items cease to be available at any price*

Cure motherfucking cancer. We were on the verge of this anyhow. Just take credit at the finish line!

But no. Elsewhere is better.
