Totally missed this when it happened a month ago, but it's now been nine years since I quit smoking.

Found it funny that there are THREE comic covers out this week that do this hand thing. Four if you count palm up.

Just finished reading BOY PARTS. I saw this categorised as horror, while my partner found it in crime fiction recommendations. It's neither, it's a literary novel on a disturbing subject. But it's great—grim, funny, uncomfortable and occasionally distressing. Loved it.

I recently bought a copy of Hobson-Jobson (a colonial guide to India for British people from the late 19th century) and it’s got such fun historical tidbits. (“Daam” is now a generic Hindi word for “cost”, while in Bengal, taka is rupee as well as the currency of Bangladesh.)

I'm not sure why, but as a writer, it bothers me when people are impressed by this kind of mirroring/thematic reflection. Writers should this, yes, but it should be seen as a fairly basic technique than something remarkable.

Only the first draft, but still, something to celebrate.

Some of my favourite photos by Sebastião Salgado were those of gold miners, who look like they're shaped out of the same ground they're working under. RIP.

Over the weekend, I attended an analogue photography workshop, learned how to develop my own film, made a contact sheet, learnt how to make test strips, as well as a darkroom print. It was, from start to end, a delightful experience.

Back to toying with this font idea I'd abandoned a couple of years ago, inspired by Tom Orz, and a little bit of Dave McKean, and … I really like how this looks.

ABSOLUTE MARTIAN MANHUNTER is:
a) gorgeous, thanks to @javierrodriguez.bsky.social,
b) probably the best thing @denizcamp.bsky.social has written yet,
c) a formal feast of the kind I've been missing in comics,
d) reminiscent of early Vertigo in the best way.
I can't wait for everyone to read it.

Since the Maha Kumbh is currently happening, I’d recommend anyone interested to read ASCETIC GAMES, which covers the politics behind the event, and happens to contain the most bonkers non-fiction passage I read last year.

I quite like these photos that my film lab guy took of me on two of the times I went to drop off some film to be developed.
