Actually the comparison is not always true and it makes my game crash quite badly if I remove it (which I expected, hence the check), but thanks for trying, kind and watchful compiler. #c64 #cc65

Spent some time in the last few weeks creating a small and simple text adventure engine for the #C64 with #cc65. Nothing noteworthy tbh but surely a very good exercise for my tired old mind. Had to twist and retrain quite a bit to make it make sense (and be reasonably debuggable).

I always loved this panel so much. I don't care for the kiss, but how #She-Hulk is drawn here feels special: how she is beautiful as always being drawn with such big hands. It's just sweet and it gets to me (in a good way) every time.

Did a lot of work through the holidays to improve the combat system in my mini-toy-rpg for the #Commodore64. Funny thing, the result is barely noticeable in play but it makes it way easier to balance and make the system predictable (bigger diff includes the Python-based replica and tester).

Started at 42 and sure age implies more complexities and limits, but there are also a lot of changes, physical and not, that are not immediately visible from a photo like this. Looks do help, of course (and HRT is only a part of that), but it's about much more than that for someone who needs it.

Some more hobby dev from last week: having the "scenes" in my mini-toy-RPG appear to use a dialog system. It does a lot for the feeling, it was also a bit of a bother to code properly and gives me even less visual space to work with. But it looks cool so clearly worth the hassle. #C64 #retrogamedev

Funny thing is you have to work at such a low level that any bug will pretty much break the universe in the weirdest way. It's much more instructive than frustrating, tbh.
Besides learning a lot, my admiration for the coders of my childhood has grown tenfold. True magicians the lot of them.

In the last few years I tried my hand at learning some C and maybe write some tiny games for the old #C64 (I don't have the skills or brains for Assembly).
It's beyond hard and the results are very simple, but believe me it feels great to watch anything you wrote run on a 40+ years old computer.
