In the last few years I tried my hand at learning some C and maybe write some tiny games for the old #C64 (I don't have the skills or brains for Assembly).
It's beyond hard and the results are very simple, but believe me it feels great to watch anything you wrote run on a 40+ years old computer.

Rings of Power (1992) was an RPG for the Sega Genesis by Naughty Dog. Five centuries ago, the Rod of Creation was shattered and turned into eleven rings now lost. When a traitor slays your mentor who manages to teleport you away, the quest to find and unite them now falls to you! (a ring thread).

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

One of the strangest aspects of aging that they don't warn you about is watching as history gets rewritten right in front of your face and people 20 years younger than you confidently tell you about something you lived through and get it completely wrong.

The Internet was made to withstand a nuclear war. Unfortunately we never planned for the far worse menace of market-oriented centralization.
It's fantastic how we technology people have managed to turn a network that's supposed to be resilient to a nuclear war into something so brittle it goes down when someone misconfigures like one file at Cloudflare

Rebecca Heineman's last message was for people to look up her departed partner, Jennell Jaquays.

Jaquays was so influent to tabletop RPGs that "Jaquaysing" became a verb for designing complex, non-linear dungeons.

@nickoten.bsky.social wrote a great article on her:

we should not be letting any company get away with blaming AI for their failures. I'm not even sure how we got to this point. people are like "it's just a tool" okay so is a forklift and we still hold somebody responsible when it goes wrong and hurts someone. this is YOUR AI!
