Inhabitant of deepest Transylvania (honest); academic management "expert" (of sorts); anti-apartheid activist; lapsed football fan; interested in Romania, Hungary, Turkey, Palestine, and beyond. He/him. Oh, and Sheffield Wednesday
Must confess there were a number of moments on the way up that I thought "why do I do this to myself?"

This is why

I learned today that when your home town football team reaches the first division in Romania you can no longer by alcohol in the supermarket (on match days)

Ok it was here, though now it is only 3 - but it's the only place I know that has it written in Romani (I thought it was 4, but maybe I misremembered)

I took a photo of it but I can't find it. I'm going to say it is "somewhere" on this map

I'm squalid and incalculable damage.

We get this out every May 1st*. My late father in law liberated it in late 89 and then added the actual hammer and sickle at a later date

(as a joke. We're not actually hankering for the second coming of uncle Nicolae)

Valentine's Day books. Very romantic. Bill Clinton and Boris Johnson, people noted for their fidelity. As well as a book about collaboration with the Nazis.

Looking at the ground while pregnant and Palestinian is a crime worthy of a death sentence from Israel

Craiova advertising its Christmas Market with a festive Darth Vader. I wonder if it's a nod to Romania's apparent Christmas wish to elect an actual nazi as president

Next president of Romania?

So, that happened while I was asleep

Very occasionally one of my management students will use the term "managee" in their essay. I *guess* it makes sense, but once I've come across it, it's very hard not to think of the teachers at their school looking a bit like this...

My first time in Brasov airport. Friendliest airport staff I've ever encountered (though this may be because it's basically got no actual traffic)

When you walk into this tiny museum in a small scruffy town and discover the biggest intact mastodon fossil ever discovered and these incredible hand painted dioramas of battles from Transylvanian history

We took delivery of, chopped and stacked an öl of wood today. I can't tell you what an öl is, because neither Deepl nor Google recognise the word (I think it's archaic like a bushel or something). I'd take a stab at approx 4 cubic metres.
Anyway, I'm knackered

It's about time students started being useful

(seriously, my daughter and I are sitting here trying to work out what the original must have been. Probably Hungarian in the original rather than Romanian, but I dunno "diák hús"?)
