exactly... and already its obvious there is no viable strategy for doubling down on ICE cars made by the big three U.S. auto companies - as they are rapidly working to move manufacturing to the U.S. due to Trump.

um.. EV demand hasn't slowed (only the global rate of growth has moderated slightly) even if you exclude China. Incumbent car companies and oil companies are doing everything possible to slow this transition, but its inevitable. Virtually all automotive jobs in ON will be EV in 10 years.

The fact that it’s still blaming the EV mandate (among other things), after Carney obligingly suspended it only for the companies to start moving production to the U.S. anyway, is almost self parody.

Scrapped consumer carbon price, weakened clean electricity regulation, paused ZEV mandate, allowed iZEV subsidy to expire, allowed Canada Greener Homes Loan to expire, passed C5 to override EAs, is planning to scrap oil & gas emissions cap, failing to enforce industrial carbon pricing...

Nope. Partisan politics has no connection to the public's desire to protect the Great Lakes - ask any MPP in the region.

No. Ontario residents will NEVER accept oil tankers on the Great Lakes. It's an exceptionally stupid idea that will never see the light of day.

The oil & gas industry's position is the literal definition of 'bad faith'. There's no bargain, grand or otherwise, in sight. Industry and its captured politicians aim to scrap all federal climate policy. Carney must dramatically increase regulatory integrity/ambition & impose the federal backstop.

I could have sworn the U.S. had a constitution with amendments preventing this, dating back to the late 1700's... I guess I'm mistaken.

Canada's #climate obligations are legally binding, enshrined in Canadian domestic law - the Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act - passed in 2021.

It's not possible for these projects to align with these obligations.

@aaronwherry.bsky.social analysis on this file is characteristically on-point. As someone who's been involved in Canada's pipeline politics for 20 years, it's obvious this project will never get built. @mark-carney.bsky.social and other leaders should avoid such an obvious political trap.

Meanwhile, Enbridge’s CEO just called again (during a speech in Toronto) for industrial pricing to end, which is another reminder that the oil and gas industry is not serious about carbon capture, and Carney will need to play hardball if he is.

No more talk about fake 'grand bargains'. No more backtracking or messing with targets and baselines.

This is a gloves off moment. The government's #climate credibility requires implementing, strengthening and enforcing policy immediately. @juliedabrusin.bsky.social #cdnpoli #cadpoli #HOC

@mark-carney.bsky.social government has scrapped the consumer carbon price, delayed the ZEV mandate, allowed the Canada Greener Homes Loan program to expire - while failing to finalize the Methane regulations, failing to enforce provincial equivalency, and plotting an end to oil & gas emissions cap.
