In April, I wondered what a trans toilet ban might look like in practice. Trans people and their cis women allies have been sounding these alarms for years. It now seems clear that the UK government took all these dire warnings as policy proposals.

I know these seem like basic questions I'm sure they've already asked but...why? To ensure what? In case *what* happens, exactly? To protect people from...what? Based on *what* research?* To what end?

*I know the answer is 'because cruelty', thanks.

Emily Maitlis brags about her, Deb Cohen, and Hannah Barnes getting the Tavistock GIDS service shut down.

What she doesn't talk about is how Newsnight journalists manufactured outrage and concocted "scandals" based on unethical journalism - which they were called out for, but tried to hide...

Since 2000, the richest 1% of the world's population has taken 41% of new wealth, the poorest half has received only 1%.

Rich buy political parties, media, means of production, cause corruption, climate crisis, make mockery of democracy. Poor die early.

Must redistribute or risk social disorder.
We cannot continue letting billionaires keep the world's money while the poorest suffer

Israeli's chief military prosecutor has been arrested and will likely face trial for "perverting the course of justice".
Over the past two years, she provided legal cover for numerous crimes against humanity in Gaza. All this didn't protect her when she pursued a single torture case.
Following the documented rape of a Palestinian prisoner in Sde Teyman, the military prosecutor ordered the arrest of the soldiers involved.
There was govt-supported riots trying to prevent their arrest. In response, she leaked the video evidence.
Now she has been removed by the Israeli govt.

I recall around 1990 an elderly supply teacher explaining to my class what war is actually like, macho mythology aside. The sound bullets make. Men crying for their mummys as they die on the battlefield. It's haunted me ever since, and certainly played a role in politicising me.
As a teen or young adult in the 1990s you had constant encounters with people in their 50s-80s who were combatants, victims or perpetrators during catastrophes of the mid-20th century

That direct link to realities of Nazism and other forms of oppression such as Stalinism or colonialism is now gone

Time to make my annual war christmas post.

My grandfather, who fought in WW1, refused to wear a poppy because the poppies were originally the Haig Fund, named after Field Marshall Haig who got many of his friends killed.

Haig was paid £100k (£5m today), veterans had to rely on charity.

He works for a right-wing pro-Israel organisation.

He's posted vile things about Palestinian kids shot by Israeli soldiers.

But Sky News presented him as an ordinary Jewish football fan subjected to online hatred.

And if the contorted logic of this statement is that smartphones and social media radicalise their users with the kind of transphobic bigotry which led to Brianna's death, then the entire Labour front bench should have their phones confiscated immediately.
can you explain to me in detail what specific controls on social media or smartphones sould have helped to prevent this situation?
Meeting yesterday with Brianna Ghey's mother Esther - and pupils at Brianna's former school - was a powerful reminder of why controls on social media and smartphone use in schools is so important for children, teachers and parents. (1/2)

Time's short and they're counting on obscurity: please let German politicians know how horrifying their reversal would be.
We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

NEW: Home Office announces planned new anti-protest powers, mainly aimed at pro-Gaza protests like those for Palestine Action. Police will be able to consider the "cumulative impact" of repeated protests and potentially order that they be relocated.

Absolutely abhorrent, morally abject & irredeemable bleak stuff from ITV here. This is deportation porn & is the doing the work of fascism: sensationalising state violence against the vulnerable to normalise & mainstream its acceptance whilst driving clicks & viewing figures
EXCL: “You can’t deport me”.

ITV has filmed a deportation flight for the first time, gaining unprecedented access.

47 foreign criminals were removed from the UK to Romania.

Some had to be physically restrained. Other were paid up to £2,000 to leave.
