I planted this oak tree about 5 years ago - it was immediately eaten down to the ground by deer/squirrels/rabbits.
I was obviously disappointed, but the tree responded by quickly growing half a dozen new stems.
Just look at it now! - 2metres tall and looking amazing in the evening sun.

@tomswarbrick.bsky.social :
No, a 'load factor' of 35% does not mean a wind turbine is only producing power for 35% of the time.
This misunderstanding provides a terribly flawed basis for any further calculations.
Unfortunately, your guest went on to make more calculations.

Re-stocked the bird feeders only to see that I'm feeding a war between the blue-tits, and coal-tits.
(It's my opinion, that blue-tits are aggressive dickheads)
.
So... hanging more bird feeders to help break up the fights (?), and that means more brackets are needed.
.
I made this.

Every tree planting season is:

1. Pay for all the stuff you need to plant 50-100k trees.

2. Hope you get paid back before you go bankrupt.

Excited to find out how quickly the Welsh Gov pays their checks before we spend £500k on land this month.

Like a lot of people, I'm really very good at killing houseplants.
But look at this Calathea - what a great little plant, look how happy it is!

Trees for Life, which is doing such amazing work in the Scottish Highlands, needs to raise £25k for its native tree nursery. In case you're looking to donate some cash to feel a bit better about *gestures at everything*, here is the link.
Dundreggan Nursery Appeal - Trees for Life
We are fundraising £25,000 to support our nursery which grows tens of thousands of trees each year, including many rare and hard-to-grow native species.

Watching BBC's 'solar system' - it's *very* good.
Episode 2 - dark worlds - is blowing my tiny cynical mind.
I am 8 years old again, and everything is fascinating.

The press last year: "Lord Max Percy is selling off his 9,500 acre Northumberland estate... The property, in the Percy family since 1332, offers one ultra-high-net-worth individual the opportunity to own a sprawling slice of rural Northumberland."

Well, it's gone to THE WILDLIFE TRUSTS.

What an absolute gem Killarney National Park is.

So just imagine how utterly *amazing* it could be with sound ecological management: a serious clearance regime for invasive sika, goats, + rhododendron, allowing the native rainforest to thrive again.

It's not complicated. 🌍

Hi! Does anyone here know what plant this is?
Growing in a stream in Yorkshire.
Am thinking *maybe* water parsnip? (water celery?)
