Not Sure How They Deal With Criminals In Your Town, But ’Round Here We Use A Restorative Justice Process
Well, well, well. What have we got here? Another city slicker who thinks he can waltz into my town and start causin’ all sorts of trouble. I’d be careful if I was you, fella. Because however they do t...

So many people were detained extrajudicially, were tortured, or died because of Dick Cheney. You can't get to the danger we're in now without everything he did. The weapons he helped forge are ones we need to take away from U.S. presidents forever.

this graph is very bad and I'm glad it gets used to highlight the uniquely American danger on Halloween but don't sleep on the other thing it shows, which is an average of about 10 kids getting run over on American streets every single day of the year
Yes, Halloween is the deadliest day of the year for child pedestrians—great advice from @mcbazacophd.bsky.social

A common thread across so many issues in the U.S. is how a narrative of individual choice is used to obscure systemic failures or divert attention away from systemic solutions

this is a good thread from jarrett, but i do think that the biggest issue is that many people (esp. the type of person writing this article) cannot or will not distinguish between "seeing a homeless person sleeping or acting erratically" and "crime"
The American centrist punditocracy has decided that what the US transit industry needs are endless lectures about the importance of security.

These writers misunderstand the problem, and are making things worse. 1/

If I had explain American history in one sentence, I could do worse than "John Brown was hung for treason, but Robert E. Lee was not."
John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry began on this day in 1859.

As the people who insist otherwise try to burn the country, it's important to affirm that immigrants, from everywhere, are awesome, and America is better the more immigrants we have. You have to be just empty and vapid and unimaginably small to reject that.

It is morally wrong to want a computer to be sentient. If you owned a sentient thing, you would be a slaver. If you want sentient computers to exist, you just want to create a new kind of slavery. The ethics are as simple as that. Sorry if this offends

The reason people like me support tolerance isn't because we think that Evangelicals have great points about LGBTQ issues, it's because we recognize that in the end, what matters is that trans people can be trans, even if Evangelicals wish they wouldn't, and vice versa. That's a functional society.

This particular talking point stands out as glaringly disqualifying. If you don't understand why Democrats used to dominate states like Arkansas but now they can't compete except in exceptional circumstances, you don't understand politics in any useful sense at all
They have been for days now only talking all about winning Arkansas with moderation and it's very weird.

This is EXCELLENT.

1) this is spot-on analysis of the problem & a great immediate 1st thing a city can do to improve outcome.

2) as a 2 min clip? He's giving history, hope & change. Speaking to women, to Jewish & Black NYers, saying "abortion." & also naming eugenics in feminism. 100/10 no notes.

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

noticed I have trouble remembering stories bc many of my memories pull toward cringe/regret/shame points.

if i could become more comfortable with those moments, less reactive, let go the desire to punish myself, I could probably improve my memory and my ability to tell stories.
