Welwyn Hatfield, Hertfordshire, cycling stuff. Likes 30-40 mile rides, especially by water and with a tent. Likes trains and travelling on them.
@walkwheelcyclet.bsky.social Working party out last week on National Cycle Network 61, The Alban Way, in Hatfield, clearing the edge of the okd platform and getting rid of overgrowing vegetation. Lemsford Rd Halt was built in WW2 to get workers to the de Havilland dactory making Mosquitoes.

Bicycle in spotlight created by old railway tunnel air shaft. Oxendon, Northamptonshire, UK on National Cycle Network route 6. The distant star is the light at the end or the tunnel.

Bicycle in old railway tunnel illuminated by light coming down the air shaft. A small circle of light at the end of the tunnel is visible in the background. At Oxenden on National Cycle Network 6 south of Market Harborough.

One for everyone who thinks French cycle routes are all amazing. Many are, but note the change from good to paint on rubbish here in Dieppe.

Motornormative: Cyclists must stop crossing on the Veloroute de Lin near Dieppe. It's fields to either side. "But they might damage a combine harvester!"

Seat 6 on an Azuma train with @lner.co.uk How on earth did Hitachi get this terrible design feature past quality checks? Impossible to use the arm rest unless you lean forward and if you sit up, horribly cramped. So disappointing.

When built this cycle path on to a main road went over a full height kerb. Chased the developers and after 8 months it's finally being constructed as it should have been when built. Queensbury, Hatfield, Herts.

@serailway.bsky.social. Insanely overcrowded 1004 from St Pancras as 12 cars into 6 at Ashford didn't work. Please replan for 12 cars to Dover. 6 bikes and wheel chair crammed in as wheelchair space is the only space for cycles.

A ride along the new section of Cycleway 20 in Enfield, which is next to the New River. Delightful green space already popular with parents collecting kids from school. The New River was built at the time of Shakespeare to get fresh water from Amwell, near Hertford, to London.

Coffee and cake, not necessarily at a service station. South Mimms services is on National Cycle route 12 (and the M25/A1(M))

Is this the longest route of continuous Cycleways in London at 48.1 miles? No road used twice. All the Cycleways connect with each other. A "longest ride for the longest day"? Critique welcomed. ridewithgps.com/routes/50312... @transportforlondon.bsky.social @londoncycling.bsky.social

Folkestone Harbour station, restored as part of the Harbour Arm. A very long time ago I got off a train here for the ship to Boulogne and a through couchette to Rome on the Napoli Express.

Cycle and walking route along the north Kent coast. Scenic on a sunny day.

4 bikes squeezed into the wheelchair spaces on @serailway.bsky.social HiSpeed. No straps to hold them securely in a train which has just been refurbished. Why?

And here are some of the 10 people who did this big job today.

Led a team of local volunteers from Sustrans and WelHatCycling, plus keen local residents to remove 38 bags of rubbish and a road cone from just 1/3rd of a mile of National Cycle Route 61, The Alban Way, in Hatfield today. @sustrans.bsky.social @whtimes.bsky.social

Free ferry ride at Woolwich, east London.

Finally did the last bit of National Cycle Route 61 into Maidenhead as part of a day ride out of London along the Grand Union Canal. Towpaths ok out to Bulls Bridge but very muddy into Slough.

Welcome to Welham Green shops. How not to encourage people who cycle to visit the local cafe.

Todays excellence in car parking award nominee. It could be worse and the lack of yellow lines here means this is of course perfectly legal. But it's not helpful.

One lane of the Alban Way in Hatfield has fallen ivy. The cycle path splits here into a dual carriageway around the lamppost. Reported to the council.

More sunshine from last week given how horrid the weather in the UK is today. This is the English Channel at Seaford, Sussex.
