Seeing people of color play rock music as a teen in 1980s Salt Lake City was life-changing. Fishbone, Living Colour, and 24-7 Spyz played there. I saw Spyz twice—once for $5 with Primus opening. The shows were chaotic, scary, and inspiring. Teens need moments like that; I have P. Fluid to thank.

#columbus #ohio are driving the metal scene; #portland and #seattle (and #spokane !!) are rebuilding momentum throughout the Pacific NW. There are signs of the spark in #yyc #yeg and #saskabush (and #winterpeg … they need the sparks!) Who else is keeping the #rockscene flame burning? #newsoundcult
Time was, there was such a thing as a “rock scene”. Every mid-sized city had a set of hard-working, hard-rocking bands whose music defined their city’s sound. Even as they looked to big-city skylines, these bands thrilled local fans every night across North America. Is a #rockscene still out there?
