There is something lovely about knowing that people you liked at work are still doing nice stuff even many years later when you haven’t seen them since you left.

Sometimes social media is just lovely 🥰

Sometimes I get quite frustrated that the detail of actual policy is lost in media coverage. @darrenpjones.bsky.social interviewed yesterday on Today made me want to scream. Honestly, the focus on gossipy “black hole” nonsense is hard to break through. Ask him about the actual policies FGS.

Remind me again, is it 450,000 children who will be pulled out of poverty by the most recent budget?

You mean like nearly half a million children who will have a more financially secure start to life?

Seems like a bloody good move to me.

The BBC as a media institution is simply without parallel - including radio and the world service.
I suspect it’s just as much part of our cultural heritage as that other British three letter acronym, the NHS.
Recognise the flaws, sure, but fight for it to be improved, not destroyed. Irreplaceable
"For a century, the BBC has been our classroom, our concert hall, our stage, our storyteller and our window on the world. Politicians need reminding: its much more than a news channel."
Defending our national treasure: the voice of the nation
Politicians see the BBC through the lens of TV news, but those who want to undermine it threaten a central plank of our national culture

We don’t have enough GPs in the system; and yet there are thousands of underemployed & unemployed GPs (like me) who need jobs.

You really couldn’t make it up.

Watch the rise of Trump, watch the potential rise of Reform: it’s a warning that we follow trends. How do we stop that trend in the UK?

Yeah, no. Crossing the road is a basic right; I can’t even imagine how this would work in towns and villages where there are no crossings. It’d need a massive investment into infrastructure and legal reform that we just don’t need…
Today, the Government launches plans to fast-track driverless vehicle trials in the UK.

One of the companies involved says London presents a big challenge:

“It has seven times more jaywalkers than San Francisco.”

Except… it doesn't. 🧵

I’m early for school pick up, sitting in the playground idly listening to the end of school assembly through open summer windows

Children singing “Baby you’re a firework” with gusto

Amazing start of half term holiday

Feeling mopey. Was all geared up to submit a (nearly finished) paper to BJGP and found out there’s a £2500 publication fee.

Sadly I don’t have that kind of money lying about, so back to the drawing board.

EU agreement… what even is the point of domestic fishing if the catch rots at the EU border?
Gaining decent export rights seems incredibly valuable for all involved in fishing in the uk, yes?

The value of the BBC is massive - from
biteSized school revision to BBC world history, there is simply nothing that rivals it. We should defend it robustly
An independent research organisation, Tapestry, has found that the BBC is the most trusted international news provider worldwide. It’s also by some way the UK’s most recognised cultural asset around the world.

To be honest, it’d be helpful to think about cities in the SW as a whole; plymouth and exeter would also benefit…
Controversial opinion: the government could maybe get more bang for its buck in the medium term by turning Bristol into a city of 1 million+ than by doing the OxCam arc

For all things EHCP related, a “working day” should ONLY be when school is in. It’s awful that parents can’t access support and help from teachers in the midst of applying, appeals, reviews etc when teachers are having a well deserved holiday
