#nonvenomous Dekay’s Brown #snake found on a warm day. Snakes brumate, like a nap on a cold day.
ANY warm day, regardless of time of year, they will be out and hunting for food.
Watch your step!

#Spottedturtles are an at risk species in my area, so the location of this hatchling is nunya business. :) Look at da baby! #turtle species are not dependent on their mothers.
The only help they need from us is to protect their habitats and move them off the roads :)

argiope aurantia aka writing #spider and the #eggsac she left behind.
They make a zigzag in the center of their #web so they can use that silk to quickly wrap up their prey.
They can also make their whole web move as an adaptation to scare predators!

You’d think the Giant American #millipede was eating the #glowworm, but it’s the other way around!
Female glowworms look pretty much the same their whole lives (larviform). Males metamorphosize and get gorgeous antennae to help them search for those female pheromones!

Juvenile #red-bellied #snake
Several species of juvenile snake here in #nc have some kind of spot or mark behind their heads. So I asked the experts at #inaturalist for help on this one.
Remember, no one knows everything, we are always #learning #nature #photography

Juvenile Southern Two-lined #Salamander omg look at his little toes!
We never handle salamanders b/c they breathe through their skin. Even our natural oils can harm them.

I can’t see you, you can’t see me! #snails can have 10k-14k “teeth” on their foot.
They hatch w/ their shells on, just like turtles! They also seal their shells up when it’s too dry & can aestivate for up to 3 years!

Remember catching “wishes” when you were a kid?
Open #Milkweed pod, with help from the wind, will disperse “wish” seeds so next year’s #monarch #butterflies can have a good meal after their long trip back from Central America.

Those little hairs on his legs are called setae! Nope, he doesn’t need to shave.
They help capture water from damp sand so these dudes and dudettes can breathe without having to go into the ocean.
