Dutch fan, posts about Agatha Christie, her life and work, Golden Age and other (European/Dutch) detective fiction, book collecting and Agatha Christie in the Netherlands.
Finally found an English hardcover edition of #Styles! This Centenary Edition is from 1990. #AgathaChristie was born in 1890. Somehow, this copy from the Croydon library found its way to the Netherlands. The cover is a facsimile of the first edition from 1920 😀.

This is the first Dutch edition (1932) of #AgathaChristie's first book: The Mysterious Affair at #Styles. It was Christie's seventh title published in the Netherlands. Dutch title: The Innocent Murderer. (Is that saying too much? 🤫🤔) Subtitle: one of Agatha Christie's mysterious stories.

This is one of my favorite Dutch #AgathaChristie paperbacks: The Body in the Library (Dutch: Death of a Dancer); 1952. Part 4 of the Atlas Mystery Series (only 22 volumes, with books by ao Christie, Sayers, Cheyney). Unfortunately, Christie's name is misspelled, but otherwise what great cover!

Happy to add another #OrientExpress to my #AgathaChristie collection. This is a limited edition from 2005. The books were made for the Venice Simplon Orient Express (VSOE) and sold on board the train. The 2005 edition is the only one with a dust jacket. And a very nice one, especially the back!!

This is #LilianJacksonBraun's first book published in the Netherlands (1970). Not yet 'The Cat Who' in the title, but : A Bachelor in Doubt (The Cat Who Ate Danish Modern 1967). Since the 1980s, however, all of Jackson's books have been published in paperback with "The Cat Who" in the title!

#AgathaChristie's best books are being republished in the Netherlands by Uitgeverij Rainbow: beautiful hardcovers that are also being reprinted! (I'm currently rereading The ABC Murders). Two more titles will follow in december: Styles and Murder at the Vicarage. A modern-day Christie for Christmas!

This is a movie magazine (10 pages) about Death on the Nile (Murder on the Nile in Dutch); with photos, storyline, and actor info. The movie tie-in is being advertised. Never seen anything like this; no idea how it was distributed or to whom. 🤷 Together a nice set for my Christie collection 😀

Day 2 in Yorkshire: no Christie but #Brontë! In #Haworth I visited the Brontë home where great novels were written! There was a very early Dutch edition of #JaneEyre on display (I think 1874? With still the name Currer Bell, Charlotte's pen name) and this little Penguin Archive is my souvenir!

On my first day in Yorkshire I visited Harrogate and of course I went to the Old Swan hotel where Agatha Christie stayed during here 'missing days' in 1926. Nearby Knaresborough is worth a visit too!

This will be my main book for the next 8 to 9 days, as I am visiting #Yorkshire for my vacation! After that, I am heading south to #Torquay to attend some events at the @agathafestival.bsky.social - I can't wait!

Although I've seen almost every Bond film (more than once 🙂), I'd never read or collected any of Ian Fleming's books. Perhaps these are a start: Casino Royale & Diamonds Are Forever. The books are in Dutch but have English titles (so iconic that translation is unnecessary...) #ianfleming #jamesbond

Auction: letter From Agatha Christie (signed Mallowan) to Lady Stewart, it is from the sixties @christietime.bsky.social! She talks about houses and... taxes. Written on paper from a hotel in Cleveland, Ohio, it seems. @collectchristie.bsky.social

These are the only Mary Westmacott titles published in Dutch. Only one ed. in the 70s, so quite rare now. From left to right: A Daughter's a Daughter; Unfinished Portrait; The Burden. On the cover it says: 'MW known to everyone as Agatha Christie'. The covers are based on the USA Dell paperbacks.

Some nice 'Dutch' finds at the thrift store today. The very first Agatha Christie in Dutch! (Secret Adversary 1925); a movie tie in (nice hardcover of Ordeal by Innocence, 1985, with Donald Sutherland on the cover) and three Albatross paperbacks from 1947 with the jackets (all printed in Holland).

A very bookish Easter with markets in Wageningen en Bredevoort. Found some Christie/Westmacott, Dutch classics and international classics, crime and more! Memento Mori because I heard of it in the @christietime.bsky.social Christie/Spark episode. And I'll try a Dick Francis, new for me...

Had a short holiday in France (Lille & Roubaix) and brought home a nice souvenir: the facsimile edition of the 1st French edition of Styles. All early Christies were re-issued in this way a few years ago. Other photo: a real 1st edition of Cards on the Table (1939).
