Rep. @anitamd.bsky.social asks if the witness will be considering practicing outside of Ohio because of bills like this. The medical student says she will.
November 4, 2025 at 9:44 PM
Next witness is another medical student: "This bill would directly harm patients by preventing patients who use Medicaid from being able to access care at Planned Parenthood. This bill would limit the provision of non-abortion care services like cancer screenings, birth control, and wellness exams."
November 4, 2025 at 9:42 PM
Rep. Ferguson asks the witness if she believes it's a bad financial investment for Ohio to spend money on this care. Rep. @anitamd.bsky.social says that Ohio is currently wasting money on crisis pregnancy centers and should redirect that funding for Medicaid patients.
November 4, 2025 at 9:34 PM
Committee member Rep. @anitamd.bsky.social Somani offers testimony as a witness in support of abortion patients and illustrating why this bill is unnecessary. She's speaking as a physician since the committee's rushed calendar did not allow for physicians to clear their schedules.
November 4, 2025 at 9:30 PM
Rep. @reprachelbaker.bsky.social asks a question to confirm that Medicaid funds are not being used for abortion care. Rep. Gross again suggests that Planned Parenthood abandon their mission and screw over abortion patients.
November 4, 2025 at 9:28 PM
Next witness is @daniellefirsich.bsky.social from @ppaohio.bsky.social to testify against the bill and in support of Planned Parenthood's thousands of patients who rely on Medicaid funding for life-saving, essential healthcare.
November 4, 2025 at 9:19 PM
Rep. @lettforohio.bsky.social asks about the nature of the care provided by Planned Parenthood that would be impacted. Committee chair Jennifer Gross follows up by noting that Planned Parenthood wouldn't lose funding if they abandoned their mission of providing abortion for patients.
November 4, 2025 at 9:18 PM
Question from Rep. @anitamd.bsky.social: Is the healthcare environment in Ohio a factor in medical students deciding where to practice? Answer: Yes, it is something that medical students consider.
November 4, 2025 at 9:14 PM
Next witness is Noyonikaa Gupta, a medical student: "HB 410 is a direct attack on the 43% of Planned Parenthood patients who rely on Medicaid. In addition to restricting healthcare access for thousands of women and families, this bill will inevitably lead to brain drain from Ohio."
November 4, 2025 at 9:11 PM
Happening now: The Ohio House Medicaid Committee is hearing testimony on House Bill 410, which would block Planned Parenthood from providing care for patients using Medicaid funding.

November 4, 2025 at 9:07 PM
Rep. @berylbrownpic.bsky.social asks the bill sponsor how his proposal on having a happy marriage to succeed in life would apply to people in unhappy and abusive marriages. The bill sponsor claims to not understand the question.
November 4, 2025 at 8:17 PM
Rep. Sean Brennan shares some very personal insight into his childhood, being raised by a divorced mother and how other families shamed him when he was young. He's asking how teachers would be guided to address similar families. His question underlines how unnecessarily harmful bill is for kids.
November 4, 2025 at 8:09 PM
Sponsor responds by repeating debunked myths about "welfare queens" and other tired right wing tropes.
November 4, 2025 at 8:05 PM
Rep. Gayle Manning asks how programs like this impact students who come from single-parent households, from divorced parents, anyone other than the dad-mom-child nuclear family model that the sponsor would push.
November 4, 2025 at 8:04 PM
Rep. @berylbrownpic.bsky.social asks if the results that are claimed by the sponsor are actually caused by the program he's pushing, or if bill proponents are they simply correlating the fact that when students come from wealthier communities, they have advantages to help them get further ahead.
November 4, 2025 at 8:02 PM
Happening now: The Ohio House Education Committee is hearing sponsor testimony on "the success sequence," a bill which pushes yet another rebrand of failed abstinence-only sex education on Ohio students.

The latest congressional maps are an insult to Ohioans and our right to free & fair elections. Each member of the Ohio Redistricting Commission should feel ashamed for the way they voted today.

🚨 At 10AM this Friday, we expect the Ohio Redistricting Committee to pass yet another series of unfair, rigged maps.

This gerrymandered Legislature is failing us at every step of the way - and patting themselves on the back while they do it.

Minority Leader Nickie Antonio (D-Lakewood) speaking against SB 156 - We would be much better off working on the things that do lead to success, increasing the minimum wage, supporting women, supporting farmers. Not shaming kids if their family doesn't look like others.
October 22, 2025 at 6:33 PM
Senator Ingram rises to speak against SB 156 after her parental opt-out amendment was tabled - she urges her colleagues to "stop dictating how Ohioans should live their lives". YES we 100% agree Senator!
October 22, 2025 at 6:16 PM
Senator Kent Smith (D-Euclid) rises in opposition to SB 156 - saying that its "least effective" way to address poverty in our state. He reads from experts talking about how the bill fails to address racial disparities in poverty and leaves students behind.
October 22, 2025 at 6:08 PM
Senator Catherine Ingram (D-Cincinnati) introduces amendment to allow parents to opt their children out of curriculum. R's have been constantly yelling about parental rights in their child's ed - but this bill currently has NO parental opt out for parents who oppose it.
