When I was there under Trump 1.0, there were days that they called no numbers at all from the list— meaning no one was processed. And people were in danger while they waited. I had a client who endured an entire pregnancy in a tent camp and ultimately gave birth on the side of the road. Cruelty.

The only way the border is “open” is that it is not *entirely* closed to asylum seekers and folks with visas. But we know that’s not what folks mean when they claim we have “open borders,” and their claim is, of course, absurd and exhausting.
