Four days until THE FIGHT WE CHOOSE goes on submission. For me, the best part of writing older YA is that you can have characters confront adult stakes with the optimism and humor of youth, making every success feel like an inspiring dream come true. You also get road trips :)

My Japanese American grandparents were interned during WW2. Growing up as a kid with a big imagination, I wished there was a book that creatively wrestled with their experience. There wasn’t.
