I spent the last month or so talking to the men who have created and are participating in a first-of-its-kind program in San Quentin meant to help rehabilitate firearm offenders and, hopefully, address gun violence in the free world.

“What does violence prevention work look like without the federal government? These cuts are forcing us to come to terms with that."

Recent federal cuts are hitting programs and research projects meant to address the varied kinds of gun violence in the US. Those who ran these projects say that every rung of society will feel the losses.

Spoke with @abene-writes.bsky.social and @theguardian.com about Trump's cowardly move to take down the Surgeon General's advisory on gun violence as a public health issue.

This is part of a much broader attack on science and safety as we know it.

The Trump administration has removed the HHS' "Firearms in America" webpage, which featured an advisory on gun violence as a public health issue and a trove of stats and reports about shootings and homicides.

Excellent and essential work from @abene-writes.bsky.social (as usual)
New from me: Domestic violence and gun violence share similar root causes and disparately impact underserved Black folks. But to date the response and prevention efforts have been separate. This has left many Black women to fend for themselves.

Went to a great session hosted by the Association of Gun Violence Reporters. I ALWAYS appreciate when people acknowledge suicide by firearm is gun violence but it's not often reported as it. Will also be rethinking gun violence stories as public health stories vs crime stories. TY @pcgvr.org

This #RHONY reboot is the actual pits. Like between Brynn being hella weird, Ubah trippin' all the time and this dumbass prank about Rebecca being pregnant by another man is too much and not enough.

It's also clear that none of these ladies weren't real friends before being cast for this.
