This is extremely brave and tiring. We know what it's like and we see you. We hope we all needed this little open letter to just see each other and not feel lonely in our perspectives on the war in Ukraine.

While for us, people that come from another region, this exclusion is merely abstract (we are coming back to our circles where we are supported and welcome), for people who have to live and act in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Balkans - exclusion means a very practical consequence.

Talking about controversial topics and having a different opinion in the anarchist movement is often linked to silencing, exclusion or boycotting you or your group. Nobody wants this.

Not once have we brought up the topic of the complexity this war brings in our region and were met with gratitude from the audience who quietly supported (or at least wanted to hear) our position but could never talk about it in their movements.

The censorship was on immediately and "the texts were torn down, removed from the table, and the person exposing them was surrounded and accused of “war propaganda” and “provocation” — simply for putting the papers on a table reserved for their collective".

We were also offered practical solidarity, such as exposing our distro on tables of groups that were accepted to be part of the fair. We have not used this opportunity, but then another group, Malobeo, decided to boycott the Bookfair but print our statements and expose them for the fair visitors.

Our open letter inviting anarchist groups and individuals to stand in solidarity with us now has over 60 signatories. Our publications brought us more reach and visibility than expected: +400 followers across platforms, multiple groups making translations of our communications and sending support

Reportedly, for “malicious disobedience to the colony administration’s demands,” Pavel received an additional two years in a high-security prison.

Pavel Shpetny was convicted under three articles of the Criminal Code and was sentenced to six years in prison.

Despite the harsh conditions of imprisonment and total isolation from the outside world, the anarchists continue to show resilience and remain true to their beliefs.

Throughout these years, the anarchists have been under constant pressure: they are regularly placed in punishment cells, transferred to prisons, and given additional years under Article 411 of the Criminal Code.

Anarchists in #Ukraine while fighting against russian invasion are actually participating in protests against the ukrainian government reforms in #Kyiv.

Unfortunately if you are opposing local resistance to imperialist war you are directly or indirectly imposing imperialist peace on the people. The support can be very different. However if you are "neutral" in such wars, then you are just supporting the winning player.

Ihar spent three years in a high-security prison; this term ended in August. The anarchist was sentenced to 20 years in prison for a series of attacks on law enforcement facilities in 2020 as part of the “Black Banner” group.
