If I remember correctly there *are* squirrels, or something like squirrels, but they hunt in packs, attack on sight, and their bite has a venom that drives you mad.

“Bringing Up Father” a century ago had a similar weirdness… every attractive female character was drawn in exactly the same Gibson Girl style, meaning that the ladies Jiggs endlessly flirted with happened to look way too similar to his own daughter.
To be fair, you also need to be pretty deep into the lore to understand that Alistair and Amos are different characters. Or that Lolly, Polly, and Edda are different characters.
I recall reading about a British guy in the 1980s who did some market research to determine the average weekly allowance of local 12-year-olds, then started a company that churned out a new cheap video game each week for that price.
$20 to me seems pretty typical for a VHS at the time. I don’t think I would have paid $40 unless it was, like, a fancy artsy film from an art museum gift shop or something.
I remember being surprised to realize, while looking at old advertisements some years ago, that computer games in the 1980s—of the sort that would now probably be published for free on a website, even text-adventure games—were typically priced at $30, $40, even $50.
