Here is Haia in Gaza holding a copy of her poetry pamphlet despite it all.

A massive thank you to the team at MAP who helped get it into her hands and to @outspokenpress.bsky.social for all the labour that went in to putting Haia’s words together.

Haia Mohammad is a 22 year old poet trapped in Gaza. We’ve been working with her since 2023 trying to support her through Israeli airstrikes, displacement & starvation. I’ve come up with a new quarterly event series called @writeback.bsky.social at the British Library.

The format is each writer presents for 20 min on a subject of their choice, then in the second half the writers interview each other. It’ll be hosted by @helenmort.bsky.social.

I’m currently reading Samantha Harvey’s Orbital and it’s blowing my mind. The elegance and richness of the prose, the interplay between narrative and thought. The inquiry into human connectivity, our dying planet, our dying bodies…it’s remarkable.
