Will maybe post chemistry stuff once I’m not stuck working with white powders and colorless liquids 24/7
Wish I could get it a bit better on camera but I love the look of acetic acid crystals from a quick vacuum transfer #chemsky

Giving that green chemistry thing I always hear people talking about a shot. Pretty cool but idk still kinda prefer purple chemistry

Got a project using a ton of HCl gas so I’ve pulled out my most grimy, corroded clamps as sacrifices cause I know it’ll ruin any of the nice ones I put in there #chemsky

Can’t say I’m looking forward to running a 10L resin column. This is gonna take a long time #chemsky

Rocks: Part 2
December 10, 2024 at 3:25 PM
Got some free rocks from an antique store over the weekend I want to show off cause I feel like chemists tend to like cool rocks. If anybody who knows about #geology or #grochemistry knows what they are I’d love to know. Looks like I might have some quartz, pyrite, fluorite, and copper ores

Yum forbidden red wine #chemsky

Switched up the starting material for this synthesis and the product looks way better than last time #chemsky

Now matter how much I work with them I still get surprised at just how heavy ethyl and methyl iodide feel

Scribbles in notebook: the final exchange yielded a bisexual lighting colored solution

Maybe I should redistill this HI, but it’s more fun with some extra color I can just remove later on. Plus distilling the whole 5kg will take forever #chemsky

And here’s a bit more because I just love when I get to work on colorful chemistry. My compound also appears distinctly different when dissolved in MeOH rather than water #chemsky

For those interested it appears to be dichromatic which means the hue depends on concentration and the path length light travels through. The solution from the before was red as the bulk liquid and blue in smaller amounts. This pic of the solution being drawn through a tube shows the effect nicely

I have some more pictures I the solution I posted before after some additional exposure to air. First pic is a dilute solution and then I have the same concentrated solution in different sized flasks displaying how the difference in the distance light travels through it affects perceived color

Classic chemistry problem: on one hand I love that my solution turned a beautiful, deep-blue color. On the other hand wtf it’s not supposed to do that

Looks like everyone’s posting their interests to get started so here’s what I’ll usually post. Mostly chemistry and tea, but how much I post depends on if I get back into prettier chemistry mostly just white powders and colorless liquids for now. Seems fun here so I kinda want to make content again
