This week we've gotten the first test for whether MAHA will push past an anti-establishment politick and get on board with putting their political weight behind some actual legislation with the reintroduction of the Medical Nutrition Therapy Act of 2025.

The Walton family (who own Walmart) are worth over $400 billion, yet many of their employees are on SNAP.

Bezos is worth over $400 billion, many Amazon employees require SNAP.

The people who need help are not the problem.

It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.

SNAP-Ed taught people on food benefits about cooking healthy food and organized walking groups — the kinds of efforts that seem in keeping with MAHA's mission. But the program will end under the new tax bill. Great feature from @elizabethcooney.bsky.social

It's exceedingly hard to argue that the administration & MAHA are committed to improving nutrition when they're simultaneously cutting everything from SNAP-Ed to innovative community nutrition work - cements the perception that food dyes are public health theatre.

Here's what's at risk:
🏦 Significant funding cuts to SNAP, WIC and Medicaid.
🏫 Eliminating SNAP-Ed and reduced access to school meals.
🍎 Slashed support for CDC and NIH nutrition and obesity prevention programs.
🌎 Defunding USAID’s global anti-hunger and nutrition and food security initiatives.

This op-ed brings up a good point about the Trump tarrifs affecting gluten-free and allergy-free food that heavily rely on imported ingredients. People like myself with celiac disease already spend 183% more than the normal American due to the high cost of gluten-free food.
I have celiac disease. My grocery bills are already high. Trump’s tariffs are about to make them worse
With President Trump’s plans for imposing additional tariffs and trade restrictions, gluten-free products are likely to get even more expensive.
