So, we have farriers and plumbers - are there any other "elemental" jobs?

Heh. I'm helping my aunt paint her garden shed today - she's 84 and no longer safe on ladders.

But she is so impatient to finally get paint on something, she's sitting there stirring it while I insist on doing boring prep work like removing the moss, spiders, and flaking old paint. 😆

How to tell that they already decided who's getting the post before they advertised it:

An ad for a job in the humanities that lists, in the desirable criteria, "being an active member of the volunteer fire department of [city]".

We live in a land of such food security that nobody had harvested the mirabelles, and even asked what in the world I was doing as I was picking the last few left in the tree that hadn't just rotted on the ground.

Combined with some slightly shriveled peaches, I turned them into 8 jars of jam.

I usually make myself a breakfast concoction of coffee, cocoa and cinnamon.

Yesterday I had to take the spice rack down to pull out the fridge, and thought I put everything back properly.

In short, I don't recommend coffee with paprika.

Echo is just waking up from a nap so epic she's still trying to remember what species she is. She seems quite pleased to discover she's a cat.

My sister says my toddler niece is very disappointed that the neighbour's cat never waves back to her.

So, since I try to be a good auntie and I'm doing clicker training anyway with my small cat, we are now adding "wave" to our bag of tricks!

Just randomly remembering what I thought a condom was as a child.

I knew condominiums were separate apartments in the same house, so when I first heard that condoms prevent pregnancy, I assumed they were separate beds in one bedroom. Because sleeping together is what causes pregnancy, obviously.

Oof. I came home to police and an ambulance in the yard. My neighbour's sister hasn't been able to reach him for a few days and they just found him on his couch - he's been dead since Sunday.

Last Tuesday, I asked if he needs help shopping during the heat wave and he said no. Last anyone saw him.

Listen, the internet is not bad. Anyone who's been That Weird Kid in a Small Town can tell you how they realised there were others like them out there thx to the net and what a monumental relief that was.

What's bad is actors and stakeholders have narrowed the internet down to a handful of sites.

I like to bring the cats new smells from my walks. Lavender is a success! Hops led to hissing and smacking.

The outside temperature has dropped by 7° in the last half hour and the wind is picking up. I think I got home just before the storm!

Callisto gives bombastic side eye. I have it on good authority that these are memeable, so have at them!

So, seriously: what on earth do you wear to a job interview when it's 37° out?

I will be driving up in my own car (with air conditioning) but there's a fair bit of walking involved before the actual interview so I can familiarise myself with the site.

And I already tend to sweat easily as it is.

I was in the shower without my glasses, as you do, and tried to pick a stray clump of hair off the wall only to realise it was an unusually large and angry spider.

The resulting shriek made the neighbour text to see if I was ok and the cats are judging me because if I didn't want it, they did...

Aha! I figured out why my sewing machine was skipping so many stitches, breaking needles & having tension issues.

There was lots of fluff in the bottom drivetrain, but removing it had made things worse - it was so compacted it had loosened the screws that hold the bobbin capsule, which was wobbly.

Dear businesses,

If I use the contact form on your website to email you a question, an email saying "we couldn't answer your question because you didn't supply a phone number, but here is a link to our website" is the wrong answer.

If I had wanted to talk to your call centre, I would have phoned.

Kitty prefers her kibble over the canned food if it's served like this!

Yes, the same one she has freely available from a dish...

Anything for the challenge!

2. Sprachen
3. Sport

Today's particular job hunting cruelty: a rejection that looks like an offer in the email preview.

Re: Your Application

Dear Mardek, thank you for interviewing with us, you have an excellent skill set and you'd be a great fit for the team...
