I've worked in a couple different public services, currently the NHS, and while there's certainly scope for optimisation these things still need boat loads of money to operate properly. They're not perfect but given the work they do for so many people, every single day, I think it's a solid deal.

Although, big picture, we live under capitalism, and a health service that functions for the majority is not something that the capitalist class particularly cares about. Better for them for it to be enshittified so that it can eventually be carved up and sold off.

There's this popular belief among the UK political class that you can have good public services simply by managing them better. And that might help to a degree, but ultimately the problem is a lack of funding and no amount of complaining about "the culture" etc. will change that.

Just to be crystal clear: The Times is a fascist newspaper. In fact, most British media is fascistic or else moving in that direction. It's unpleasant to think about but it's true.

It is, after all, exactly what we are seeing now in the global north with the contemporary fascism of Trump and Reform, and The Times are doing a lot to feed the violent reaction against e.g. trans people in the UK.

This tells us a lot more than anything in the genomes of fascist leaders imo, but I can see how correctly understanding fascism as a violent right-wing reaction against progress for minorities and gains made by the political left might make Times journalists... uncomfortable.

I think you can learn a lot more about 20th century fascism by looking at it as a violent middle-class reaction towards the labour movement, against progess for women and minorities etc. It salvaged capitalism and saved the bourgeois and petit-bourgeois (in a victory for barbarism over socialism).
