Following the adventures of BCC 006 Calypso and BCC 67 Mischief
Made it.

French Polynesia.

32 days, 3.5 hours at sea. Average speed 5.5 knots. 89 hours of engine run time.

Not bad for a 28’ monohull!

Sailing into the sunset has ceased to be merely a dream.

It’s our current reality. Only 3300 miles to go.

Wind filling in nicely. Have set a waypoint to clear Punta Mala.

Now if this counter-current would just disappear.

Fresh goods purchased today (from small vendors at the Neri market in Panama City) included 2 flats of fresh, organic eggs.

60 eggs. $10.

Canning sessions aboard, inspired by @sailingtotem.bsky.social

There’s room in the bilge for 30 of these pint jars. Stockpiling chicken, pork, and some ready-to-eat meals.

Fresh market scene from today. I only bought onions and cabbage: will be back Friday morning for the major bulk of what we’ll take. This guy was super helpful finding hard onions with no soft spots.

Fresh produce that hasn’t been refrigerated will last longer than stuff that has.

Weird rock formations, Las Perlas edition.

We sailed out from Isla San Jose this morning after an uncomfortable night in the swell. (Still better than bugs, thank you very much.)

From one angle, this looks like a sphinx. From another, one of the Easter Island moai.

Guna Yala, Panama, December 2024. Last Atlantic side beaches for a while!

Making granola this morning and pondering what “self sufficient” means.

There are so many angles to this, from skills to gear to supplies.

Present me thanks past me.

There’s a new anchorage rating system on Calypso this morning.

The “S” system. It’s for bugs. The more “S”, the worse the spot.

Screen. Spray. Smoke. Slap. Scratch.

Last night was a solid 5-S. About to pick up the hook and hightail it out of here.

Into the “creative galley” segment of “it’s been a long time since I provisioned”.

Lunch: chickpea salad on crackers. Used the last can of chickpeas, the last carrot, 2 slices of onion.

Friends offered to bring a few fresh goodies when they come out on Sunday. ❤️❤️

Generally the rule is “everything needs to serve 2 purposes”.

Rules sometimes need to be broken.

We’ve been carting this conch shell around for so long. Today Jeremy got out the dremel…

Bringing some Bahamas cruising tradition with us to the South Pacific.

Breakfast yesterday. We stocked up on maple syrup from Vermont before we left the States.

No need to stock excessive amounts of regular staples like flour and other baking supplies. That stuff is available (and not insanely expensive) everywhere we’ve been. Even the Bahamas.

Bimini by day.
Movie screen by night.

Also, this is still a great movie.

(Our projector is a tiny puck of a thing powered by USB. Pair it to a Bluetooth speaker and you’re in solid business.)

Flashback Friday to a year ago, in the Bahamas on Mischief. We’d shifted anchorages to be better protected from the coming front.

A cruising truism is that weather rules all.
