Undertaking a rewatch of classic DW from the beginning (and picking up where I left off on that other platform last year). Now where were we? Well, after leaving the real Earth Delegate open-mouthed on Peladon, we’re now enroute to visit an old friend…
Yes, 10 years almost to the day (seemed like a lot longer in those days :)). That last episode of Inferno was an absolute revelation - couldn’t believe my luck 🙂

Absolutely - they are ingrained in my memory - I caught Inferno Ep 7 and then Terror of the Autons (b/w at that point) in NZ. When I left Australia they were repeating Tom Bakers last season.

Wonderful memory there - thanks for sharing. Yes, they were fabulous times - repeats in the UK were few and far between (virtually non-existent bar the odd Christmas omibus showing!), so these episodes were absolute gold 🙂

Ah yes, I recall pondering on the visual discrepancies here too. I ended up landing in the ‘it’s a design/plot point to let slide‘ camp, but part of me entertains the thought that all those materials sourced via Lesterson were utilised in further construction - ‘Grand Designs’ of a kind I guess 🙂

Another superb edition that hits that sweet spot of balancing fascinating production info & well-informed speculation, whilst always providing something new to consider (all of which prompted me to revisit the soundtrack straightaway!). Oh, & I’ll never view ‘Gladiator’ in quite the same way again…🙂

Yes, a firm favourite here too - and there’s always the potential that there may be some Troughton episodes within those collections recently flagged by the Film is Fabulous team…. 🤞

I was intrigued to read that there were initial plans for Donald Cotton to adapt his first script for the series (fragments of which were retained for the opening broadcast episode) as a Target novelisation. Now that would have made for a lovely collectors item 🙂

So many wonderfully staged moments - including some subtle but very effective shot directions (the simplicity of the camera pushing to a close-up of Baker, as the Dr suddenly realises that Sutekh is building a rocket, always springs to mind).

“Is that bang big enough for you Brigadier?” So many quotable lines & brilliantly staged moments. Easily in my top 5 favourite stories from the classic series.
